Hi there hockey fans.

My name's Lee and I'm the voice of the Pirates on gamenight. You'll hear me before, during and after the hockey game as we all enjoy the fastest team sport in the world.

Before the game starts we run through a series of announcements ranging from details about sponsorship, match programmes, where you can buy your Pirates souvenirs and when the next games are. Then of course, we have the all important entrance of the two teams and that's when you get the chance to really raise the roof by making as much noise as you can! The biggest part of the pre-game ceremony is when every player from both teams is introduced to the crowd - you can cheer for your favourites and even boo the opposition if you like! Shortly after this comes the opening face-off - when we really like to make some noise!

During the game when the referee's whistle stops the action, we fill the gap by playing a selection of music covering a wide variety of tastes. We play 50's rock'n'roll, 60's pop, 70's disco, 80's new romantic and 90's boy bands - we also throw in some current charts hits too for good measure. There's time to play a real mix of music so there's something for everyone. When a Pirates player puts the biscuit in the basket - or in other words, scores a goal - we play one of the loudest goal horns in UK hockey mixed in with a few screeches, sirens, slamming breaks and a burst of Mikkel Nordse's Goal!

The two intermissions are usually filled with a variety of mixes which you can hear both in the arena if you prefer to stay in your seat, or out in the foyer if you are checking out the souvenirs or buying snacks and drinks. From crooners to TV themes, club floorfillers to disco, sixties hits to today's chart hits - we'll play it all. The Pirates also give you the chance to have a special message read out on gamenights. So if you want to say hello to someone special, celebrate a birthday or anniversary, or whether it's good luck or congratulations, we'll say it loud during the second period intermission. All you need to do is collect a special announcements slip from the merchandise table and hand it back there, completed, before the start of the second period. We'll take it from there.

When you hear the opening beats of 2 Unlimited's Workaholic you know to get back to your seat in a hurry - it's the sign that the game will restart in a couple of minutes!  Then some classic sports anthems greet the players onto the ice for the start of periods 2 and 3. You'll hear Guns 'n' Roses Welcome to the Jungle, Strike it Up from Black Box, The Prodigy's Firestarter or Chelsea Dagger from The Fratellis as the players re-enter the ice and the puck drops.

Immediately after the game has finished, if the Pirates have won we all celebrate with a bit of Kool and the Gang as the players dust down and shake hands. The final part of the evening is the post-game ceremony for the Man of the Match awards, one for each team, are made on the ice. Then we'll wish you a safe journey home and remind everyone of the details of the next Pirates home game. On your way out of the arena you will hear Kathleen Edward's Hockey Skates and Ghost Town from The Specials.

Phew! Then it's off home for a lie down!!! Keep checking the Pirates website for details of games and intermission entertainments, which we hope to introduce shortly. Look out.chuck-a-puck is coming soon!

We currently have a library of approximately 140 tracks to choose from and we will use around 60 every game. Some of the short clips played during the breaks are listed below: If you have suggestions for music and games or comments on what you hear during gamenights, you can contact me here.

Enjoy the game!
