A Great Finale From Pirates

Dundee Texol Stars were visitors to Braehead last night for the final regular season SPHL match and were on the wrong end of a 9-6 scoreline against Pirates.

Pirates got off to a flyer and scored after only 20 seconds through John Churchill. Two minutes later and Stars were level when Iain Roberston scored. Stars went in front on 12 minutes with a powerplay goal from John Haig but Marc Fowley levelled the score just before the period break.

Barry Carnegie gave Stars a 3-2 advantage on 29 minutes but Pirates hit back when Connor Gibson equalised three minutes later. With less than a minute left in the second stanza Pirates took the lead with a powerplay goal from Chris Linton. Just as the fans were preparing for the break Haig scored for Stars with 11 seconds remaining to tie the game at 4-4.

Pirates scored two quick goals through Chris Conaboy and Churchill but Stars responded with goal from Jeff Marshall on 49 minutes. Pirates scored again on 51 minutes to restore their two goal advantage but one minute later Haig completed his hat-trick to make the score 7-6. Pirates finished the game stronger with two goals from Brian Miller and Marc Fowley to give the home side a great 9-6 victory.

That's a hatrick of wins against the Stars in their last three visits to Braehead.
